What does an Image Consultant do?

  • Image Consultants are paid to show people how to create a fabulous impression, but image is more than just physical appearance. In addition to how someone looks, we also form impressions based on how someone talks and behaves.
  • Image Consultants can therefore offer the kind of advice that can help people land a job, get a promotion, find someone to love, or just feel good about themselves.
  • An Image Consultant might recommend wearing different colors or new styles, go through closets to toss out clothing that isn't working, shop for a new wardrobe, and put together incredible outfits. They might also advise a change of hairstyle, makeup, or grooming.
  • An Image Consultant can also serve as liaisons between the client and other professionals who can improve the client's appearance, such as physical trainers, hairdressers or dermatologists.
  • Image Consultants can work closely with fashion designers and selected boutiques to develop ensembles made specifically for the client.

Image Consultants may perform the following tasks:

  • Assist a client with a makeover,  which could include  a colour analysis, wardrobe detox, a new hairstyle and makeup tips.
  • Advise people on their vocal communication (voice, grammar, vocabulary, etc.), non-verbal communication (handshakes, posture, eye contact, etc.) and etiquette - from dining to cell phones.
  • Personal shopping, including purchasing clothing and accessories on the client's behalf.

What is a Colour Analysis?

  • A Color analysis is the process of determining your natural color tone so that all clothing, makeup, hair, and jewelry colours placed near your face will be in harmony with this tone.  When the colors all harmonize, you will look radiant, healthy and fabulous
  • A personal color analysis will usually take about 1½ hours
  • In addition wearing your best colors will:
  1. Make you look healthier, radiant, vibrant, more fabulous (the wrong colors can make you look tired, sick, pale/washed-out
  2. Minimize any facial blemishes, discolorations, wrinkles, scars
  3. Draw attention to your eyes
  4. Make your smile whiter and brighter
  5. Ensure your hair color/highlights flatters your skin tone
  6. Give you confidence
  7. Can save you  time and money because you will buy clothing, makeup, shoes, belts, and bags that all coordinate and will look great on you, so you will need less.

Skills of the Successful Image Consultant:

  • You MUST have a passion for fashion and a keen eye for detail, as well as be up to date with the latest fashion trends and colour schemes and be familiar with a huge range of fashion labels.
  • You MUST learn  how to conceal body flaws and use accessories to your advantage. An understanding of body and face shapes will also be a necessity.
  • You MUST have have patience and not let your ego rule, and be creative and able to think outside the box.
  • You MUST be highly organized, have the ability to work to a schedule, be self motivated, trustworthy, honest, reliable and have a sense of humour.
  • You MUST be well presented and be able to market yourself to prospective clients
What is a Personal Shopper? 
  • A Personal Shopper is an occupation where people help others shop by giving advice and making suggestions to customers.
  • A Personal Shopper can be employed by a department store or boutique, however many are   freelance or work exclusively online. 
  • The focus is usually on shopping for clothes, although the number of non-clothing stores - such as furniture retailers - that offer personal shopping services is on the rise, and many freelance personal shoppers will help customers shop in whatever item they happen to be after.
  • Although there are no formal educational requirements to become a personal shopper, related retail experience is a must.

        NB: An Image Consultant or a Colour Consultant is distinct from a Fashion Stylist .  An Image Consultant is an expert in both colour and line and may work with business professionals or individuals, as opposed to celebrities in particular. An Image Consultant may also provide services such as personal shopping, restructuring a client's entire wardrobe, reorganizing a client's closet, or other duties relating to the client's personal lifestyle.
